We selected Califano and Son Construction for a larger home renovation project which included a new roof, kitchen, bathroom, and family room. Since our renovation was larger in scope we interviewed multiple contractors and checked all references. We decided to go with Califano and Son Construction and it was a decision that proved to the right one. Our roofing situation was quite severe as not only did the roof require a complete tear-off but the issues were structural as well. Mike and his team demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship in providing us a roof that not only looks great but is structurally sound as well. Our kitchen, bathroom, and den we are all extremely pleased with and the finished product was exceptional. Mike is a meticulous contractor not only from the placement of every nail but in how immaculate he keeps the job site. From a budgetary perspective Mike held true to the estimate and if a change order was required it was clearly communicated, documented, and explained. Califano & Son has been my go-to contractor for the last 15 years. Michael and his team of professionals have renovated a home office for my husband, our laundry room (twice – one in our first house and in our current home) and countless other minor renovations.

My wife and I planned to do some work on our home and contacted several contractors. When the plans were ready we tried to reach them but they failed to return our calls or answer our emails. Bad start.

That’s when we heard of M. Califano & Son. We set up a meeting and Mike showed up on time. He gave us a date that the estimate would be ready and again, on time. The contract was concise and without ambiguity. Payment schedule was clear as to what was to be completed before payments were due. Mike gave us a date he would begin work and held to it.

During the five month project there was never a day that Mike or one of his crew weren’t there working or directing the subs. Mike would personally walk the subs through before they began and told them exactly what to do and how he wanted it done. Careful attention was given to protect existing floors and surfaces. Every day finished with tools and materials being put away and everything cleaned up. Mike is a perfectionist and if something was not completed to his expectations it was redone.

We enjoyed working with Mike and his crew and are extremely happy with the finished product. We would highly recommend M. Califano & Son to family and friends or anyone looking for a top-notch contractor.

What can I say about M. Califano and Son Construction? Mike has done 3 big projects for me over the years. He just finished the most recent project. He repaired and refinished my hardwood floors, put up crown molding and painted the entire inside of my home. In the past he has extended and remodeled my kitchen and put on a 700sq foot addition complete with a second kitchen and bathroom. As you can see he is the only contractor I trust. Here’s why.

     -Well maintained job site. Safe and very clean.
     -Great staff who listen to your concerns and are very personable.
     -Most important of all is the quality of his work. The work is done as if he is working on his own home. No short cuts and done right.

We have just completed a main bath and front room renovation with M. Califano & Son at our home on Gallows Hill Road, Cranford. Our job was smaller in scale, but the M. Califano & Son team never treated us this way. Mike, his employees, the plumber and electrician team aligned, were professional and insightful every step of the way.

The communication we had was exemplary. If I wasn’t brought up to speed by Mike himself, his lead contractor Jared would share progress and what to expect the days ahead. As a work at home employee, this was especially helpful because I was able to plan my day accordingly.

In addition to top notch communication, they were respectful of our home. They laid cloth and plastic covering down and cleaned (vacuumed and/or wiped down) at the end of each day. This was a huge help and reinforced to us M. Califano & Sons was a top notch organization.

If I can convince my husband to expand our master bedroom (fingers crossed!) we will have M. Califano & Son Construction back to do the work, no doubt.
